What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a UK certification scheme that demonstrates an organisation's minimum level of cyber security protection. It's backed by the UK government and overseen by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). To achieve certification, organisations must complete and submit a self-assessment questionnaire and provide relevant evidence.
How Does a Charity Get Cyber Essentials?
Self-Assessment
The charity completes a detailed questionnaire about its IT systems and security practices, identifying any areas where improvements are needed.
Verification
The charity submits the questionnaire to an accredited certification body, which verifies the information and checks the required technical controls.
Certification
If the charity passes verification, it's awarded Cyber Essentials certification, valid for one year.
